The unit no longer responds to remote controls while the buttons on the main unit still work. What sucks is that I'm just outside the warranty period (of 1 year). I liked this player. This doesn't really make life easy since there are only 3 buttons on the main unit.I believe this is due to shoddy worksmanship since I've read similar things about the previous model in this line dying after 1 year. I'm never buying Philips again. when it actually worked.Unfortunately at the 1.5 year mark it slowly start fading away. At first I thought it was a broken remote but when I bought a universal remote, it didn't improve anything.
For the price, I'm pleased by this machine. Multi-region is a big issue, nice picture, does what it is meant to do without the hassle. Since this is the most recent purchase I can't yet comment on the durability - however, if it performs as well as the others you can't really go wrong at this price. We own three models of phillips and each has it's pro's and cons. This is a bit better than some of the other models -not quite as slow although by no means does it compare to some of the other more expensive units on the market.
its tempermetal shall we say but when you get around to figuring it out well, it will only be slightly aggravating. ugh. (my best advice is using left and right for fast forwarding than the skip/ff buttons as it will always confuse the two if you aren't careful) It plays everything and you can even plug and play from an external hardrive that has its own power supply. Good all around for playability.downsides: that remote.
Most of my TV equipment is Samsung. Philips tech support was helpful in confirming that I needed to update some firmware.
Connection was easy with an HDMI cable. This was easy to do.
I purchased this product (refurbished). It's not a big deal, but I do agree with other reviews that the DVD tray is very shallow and there is a delay in launching the tray.
To date, I've had no problems with the unit. Due to all the changes in technology, I wanted something fairly inexpensive to play my DVD's on.
However, the reviews on the Philips seemed better for this product.
Normal DVDs look great on my HDTV in the bedroom. Great upscaling DVD player.
